Overview
A few miles away from the capital city, Ross Island was once the administrative headquarter for the Britishers. Due to an earthquake that rocked the island in 1941, the British took settlement at Port Blair after leaving from there. Till date, the island hasn’t recovered from the decay and neglect that was set it. Nature showed its strength and slowly and steadily, it took its toll. The banyan trees there have engulfed the buildings thereby replacing the man-made structures. When you are there, you will be taken back to the time when this island was an administrative settlement for the Britishers. However, the Indian Navy has rebuilt some of the old buildings such as the local stores and bakery. One can buy souvenirs from there.
